The Uninvited Ancestors (Khmer: ដូនតាក្រៅ) is an upcoming short supernatural horror film. Written and produced by Tim Pek, a Khmer Australian award-winning director who successfully meet critical acclaims with his debut film, The Red Sense. As its modern setting takes place in Australia, all of the cast also involve by Australian people who are Khmer descendants. With an existence of word Ancestor in the title, the film's main concept will partially deals with ancestral heritage, local religious belief and some domestic customs from Khmer culture inspiration beside its ghostly theme and setting outside Cambodia.

The film still in production and plan to be released by 2011.

Plot

After an unfortunate event happens in a small rural town. The two sisters Neat and Nat were forced to move into an abandoned house to stay for a while. Soon after they moved in, strange paranormal events start to occur to the younger sister Nat and she does not know if it is really happening to her or If it is just in her head which keeps sending an uneasy feeling through her body. A strange apparition and a spiritual image of a unknown figure starts to appear in her dreams or is it in reality who she will soon come to know as her uninvited ancestors. Her older sister Neat soon gets involved due to knowledge from a medium she knows, they both try to figure out the best way to restore their ancestor's property through a dark holistic ritual which will not come without its many risks. The dark secret that has been hidden for thousands of years will be seen in its true form when they open Pandora's box and dig up the evil past.

From the makers of "The Red Sense" & "Annoyed" comes Tim Pek's scariest & most ambitious film to date with jaw dropping scenes & an imaginative twist that you won’t see coming until the very end.

Story

The film's story and script was originally based from a writing competition among young writers in Cambodia. The competition first informed publicly through a Khmer youth writer's blog since February 26 [1] and in six months later, a story named " The Welcome Ancestor " which is written by Samnang Eng then finally chose.

Casting

before a casting panel, Tim Pek who was responsible for directing, had done a few casting calls and some audition had been held around an area in Australia. During that time, Tim quite struggle with a lot of Khmer looking girls who living in Australia but can speak Khmer just in basic. However, he successfully came up with three Khmer casts to match all qualifications, such as Rann Chhoueng, Monica Thong and Monica Dollyka Keat.
